A truly historic venue

In 1887 Sir John Maxwell granted the land now Maxwell Park to the burgh of Pollokshields for the construction of a burgh hall and public gardens.

Glasgow architect Henry Edward Clifford (1852-1932) was appointed to design the new hall in 17th Century Scottish Rennaissance style. Using dark red sandstone and featuring a 60-foot tower the hall became a striking addition to the architecture of the new burgh of Pollokshields.

Internally, residents of Pollokshields gifted numerous stained glass windows and the hall was decorated with solid wood panelling, ornate cornicing and stonework, all of which have been lovingly maintained by Pollokshields Burgh Hall Trust.

The unique location with its own gardens and grounds is situated adjacent to Maxwell Park make Pollokshields Burgh Hall an extremely special venue for any event.

The Trust was formed in 1986 and currently consists of 8 Trustees, including one of our local elected councillors.
